Hand Sanitizers Packaging

During the pandemic, nearly all companies, including food companies, shifted their focus to manufacturing hand sanitizers to control the spread of the virus. This virus caused a halt in almost everything, including work, sports, shopping, socializing, and all other routine activities.

A sudden spike in the demand for hand sanitizer caused a worldwide shortage, even though different companies stepped into the production. Even the food and beverage companies started producing and packaging hand sanitizers.

The good thing is that the initial shortage has been covered well by companies that took initiative to meet consumer demands. The first few months of the pandemic had seen a dramatic and sudden shortage of hygiene products, which are thought to be effective in preventing the spread of the virus.

The role of packaging companies has also been quite crucial during this entire time. They worked to produce hand sanitizer packaging solutions to deal with the influx of demands from manufacturing companies. All in all, it was a joint effort that resulted in the businesses averting the risk of further shortage.

One of the companies to talk about is the London-based Ineos, which has been a producer and supplies of biofuels and polymer. This company is thought to be a source for major packaging companies in the UK and other European countries. In March, this company announced to produce one million hand sanitizers per month in the UK to help other counties in and out of Europe. It also has plans to start production in Germany. According to the announcements, the company will provide hand sanitizers to hospitals for free.

Another Paris-based company LVMH, which is known for producing luxury goods, has started working devotedly on hand sanitizer production. This company plans on providing the government with 12 tons of hydroalcoholic gel.

The role of the FDA

While FDA guidelines have not been quite clear about the production of hygiene products due to the fast paced market, this authority has outlined some guidelines in March.

In the start, there had been disruptions in the supply of alcohol-based hand sanitizers, mainly due to high demands. With the pandemic situation prevailing across the globe and consumers demanding more hand sanitizers, many companies had started producing hygiene products, and many companies planned to start production. The purpose of guidelines by the FDA was to help companies make their production processes more flexible. The FDA has remained committed to ensuring the supply of alcohol-based hand sanitizers by working with manufacturers and healthcare facilities.

These guidelines are also helpful for packaging companies. It is quite understandable that being compliant with instructions by the FDA can help packagers and manufacturers remain on the same page. The packagers can keep an eye on public demands and the level of production of hand sanitizers. They can prepare packaging products based on that data.
